The Dreamer
I am Alanya Universe, a freelance artist and illustrator who specializes in creating custom works of art in a variety of media, in the Madison, WI area where I taught k-12 art for 12 years until leaving to follow my (he)art.
Growing up in the midwest as a predominantly West Indian - Irish blend, I use art to explore my identity and the folklore and mythologies uniting my combined cultures.
In my spare time I read tarot cards, can be found wandering around town with my dog, practicing or teaching yoga, and in the throws of some new project.
The Dream
Trinidad & Tobago are my home islands, and I’m starting the process of dual citizenship to head down there, reconnect with my roots in the diaspora, buy a piece of land, and start an island art and yoga retreat. I’d like to be there by fall/early winter 2024.
Everything I’m creating right now is in pursuit of that dream.
