Make Art Great Again.

Appropriation happens all the time with fascist regimes. Runes are now affiliated with nazi symbols rather than the regeneration they were intended for. The Punisher would hate the MAGA die hards who sport his logo. They don’t care, if they can take something publicly recognizable and twist it for their nefarious means, they’ll do it.

So I’m doing it, too.

I declare 2026 as the year of MAGA. Make Art Great Again. Fuck them, let’s create.

Each month in 2026 I’ll be creating a drawing challenge. A daily prompt for making art every day.

Personally, I’d like to enhance my drawing and illustration skills. I could use some discipline, and I’d like some coconspirators in my practice.

These will be themed monthly challenges and if you have ideas you think would be inspiring to add and keep you motivated, by all means please reach out and tell me!

This month is “Constitution” themed.

I read the constitution, and I pulled words and ideas from it to serve as a daily prompt to work from.

So here’s the thing, words become worlds. What we say, how we speak of things, how we think of things, creates a reality. A world. A vibe. Feeds an energy. Spelling it out… spells. Words are magic. “In the beginning there was the word and the word was with god, and the word was god…” if you subscribe to that. The Mayans have the Maker and the Feathered Serpent joining words and thought to create the world.

My tangent being, words are pretty fucking powerful and they create the reality we live inside of. Not just in creation origin stories, but consider when someone tells you about another person before you’ve met them, how what was said lives in the experience of your first encounter. That person already lives in a world that’s been created about them…

Ok, calm down Alanya, we don’t need to get so existential about EVERYTHING, ffs. So what’s this got to do with a drawing challenge? I mean, check out the prompts. It’s blatant. The goal this year is to create a wealth of art with this linguistic intention. Imagine if another person joined me in focusing on the meaning of each word and creating it into existance through their artistic interpretation. I’m doing one, your’re doing another. And then imagine if another person joined us… and then another… and another… how many people would we need to be focusing on the same word every day to cause a shift? Can each of us, as the gods we are, affect change through our interpretions and sharing of words and art? I’d like to find out.
